Designed to operate one bipolar stepper or 2 brush DC motors, A4990 includes diagnostic outputs and short circuit, open load, over-temperature/-voltage, and UVLO protection circuits. Each full bridge uses DMOS power devices with integrated freewheeling diodes, and peak motor current can be limited. Allowing 2-phase on, full step operation, stepper motors can be driven with full current in either direction in each phase. DC motors can be driven clockwise and counter clockwise and in brake mode.
