Dutch govt invests in quantum mechanics

(Telecompaper) The Dutch government and Dutch universities will put EUR 135 million over the next ten years into the study of quantum mechanics.The idea would be to apply the laws of quantum mechanics to computer technology, potentially increasing the power of computers exponentially. The study could also give a boost to cryptography. The University of Delft will lead the research. An agreement has been concluded between the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs (EZ), the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), the University of Delft, the Dutch Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) and the TKI HTSM Foundation.
