For the location in Darmstadt, Germany we are looking for a EPSSG Science Support Consultant fm at Eumetsat. Tasks Scientific onsite consultancy support is sought to contribute to the development of product processing facilities of the EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation EPSSG ground segment. The consultant will provide support in the areas of optical and microwave imaging, microwave sounding, or scatterometry. The consultant will work in a matrix structure providing crossdivisional support and be hosted in the Remote Sensing and Products Division of the Technical and Science Support Department. The tasks and responsibilities will include Preparation of algorithm theoretical basis documents for the generation of level 1 and selected level 2 products Preparation of product generation specifications for the product processing facilities Prototyping of product generation functions Generation of product contents specifications Preparation of test data Preparation of initial calibrationvalidation plans Contribution to the generation of performance budgets Conduct of internal studies related to mission requirements refinements Assessment of results from external studies Contribution to the initiation of scientific support studies System meetings and activities of instrument functional chain teams IFCT Participation in reviews Essential requirements Scientific consultancy will be sought in the areas of 1. Optical imaging or 2. Microwave imaging or 3 .Microwave sounding or 4 .Scatterometry The consultant shall have the following experience and background A University degree in remote sensing, meteorology, oceanography, physics, or equivalent At least three years of experience in the field of remote sensing in one or more of the areas listed above Experience in satellite data processing Very good skills in a higher programming language, such as Fortran, CC, Java Skills in writing scientifictechnical documents Familiarity with Microsoft Office Good interpersonal skills in support of team work The consultant shall have the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum level of supervision. Desirable Skills The following knowledge and experience would be an asset Experience in understanding and writing requirements Experience with the specification, development and validation of satellite data processing chains Experience with calibration and product validation methods Knowledge in radiative transfer Other Information Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory Travel within Europe might be required Must be an EU national or possess a currently valid German Work Residence Permit Starting date is April 2013 To guarantee that your application is processed, please apply via our website httpwww.scisys.co.ukdewowirarbeitenspacekarrierespacejobs.html
