Important All applicants must hold a current valid work permit for Germany or be EU nationals. For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently seeking a Scientist to support aspects related to the development of the product processing facilities of the EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation EPSSG ground segment. The Scientist will work in a matrix structure providing crossdivisional support and be hosted in the Remote Sensing and Products Division of the Technical and Science Support Department. Scientific support will be sought in the areas of Optical imaging, or Microwave imaging, or Microwave sounding, or Scatterometry Deliverables The tasks and responsibilities will include Preparation of algorithm theoretical basis documents for the generation of level 1 and selected level 2 products Preparation of product generation specifications for the product processing facilities Prototyping of product generation functions Generation of product contents specifications Preparation of test data Preparation of initial calibrationvalidation plans Contribution to the generation of performance budgets Conduct of internal studies related to mission requirements refinements Assessment of results from external studies Contribution to the initiation of scientific support studies System meetings and activities of instrument functional chain teams IFCT Participation in reviews. The support will involve close crossdivisional interactions and interface with experts in various disciplines system engineering, instruments, operations, science. Qualifications and Requirements Applicants require a University degree in remote sensing, meteorology, oceanography, physics, or equivalent. Essential At least three years of experience in the field of remote sensing in one or more of the areas listed above Experience in satellite data processing Very good skills in a higher programming language, such as Fortran, CC, Java Skills in writing scientifictechnical documents Familiarity with Microsoft Office The experience and capability to fulfilthe assigned tasks with a minimum level or supervision Good interpersonal skills in support of team work. Desirable Experience in understanding and writing requirements Experience with the specification, development and validation of satellite data processing chains Experience with calibration and product validation methods Knowledge in radiative transfer. English is the working language at EUMETSAT, and so candidates must be fluent in the language.
