EU agrees on cross-border portability for OTT services

2017-02-08 09:15:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) The European Parliament and EU member states have reached an agreement on the European Commission's proposal to allow 'portability' of online subscriptions across the EU. This means Europeans will be able to use their subscriptions to films, sports events, e-books, video games or music services when travelling within the EU, under the same terms as at home. Once formally adopted, the rules will apply by the beginning of 2018, as the regulation grants providers and rights holders a nine-month period to prepare for application of the new rules.
