Energy companies fight proxy access

Not long after New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer said in November that he would file identically worded shareholder resolutions with 75 companies seeking the right of shareholders to nominate corporate directors, many of those companies replied that they were just about to do the same thing. The targeted companies, with energy firms representing nearly half of the bunch, were chosen as part of the New York City's official's effort to take on businesses he considers to have poor records on climate change, diversity, and shareholder's ability to vote on executive compensation.
