FAA completed nationwide infrastructure upgrade, part of Next Generation Air Transportation System, that will increase efficiency and reliability with which air traffic controllers track aircraft while simultaneously providing pilots with more information in cockpit. Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) radio network supports satellite-based surveillance system that tracks aircraft with aid of GPS. Full implementation by all 230 air traffic facilities is expected by 2019.
