FCC recommends Telcordia for number porting contract

2015-03-05 08:23:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) The FCC has recommended awarding the contract for the US's number portability system to Telcordia, ending over 20 years of Neustar administering the service. The full commission still needs to approve the recommendation from the wireline competition bureau of the regulator. Neustar issued a statement saying the award procedure was "botched" and the regulator had "underestimated" everything for which the numbers database was needed. It also suggested there was a security risk handing the deal to Telcordia, a subsidiary of Sweden-based Ericsson, and that the switch to a new system would end up costly, after no proper evaluation of the associated costs. Neustar said it would continue "to raise important questions, and will review all its options".
