(Telecompaper) Google has announced a new open source initiative called Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP). This aims to significantly improve the performance of the mobile web so that webpages with rich content like video, animations and graphics work alongside smart ads, and load instantaneously. Google also wants the same code to work across multiple platforms and devices so that content can appear everywhere in an instant. The project relies on AMP HTML, a new open framework built out of existing web technologies, which allows websites to build light-weight webpages. Over time is expects that other Google products such as Google News will also integrate AMP HTML pages. At launch, almost 30 publishers worldwide are taking part in the AMP initiative, including the BBC, Twitter, Pinterest, WordPress.com, Chartbeat, Parse.ly, Adobe Analytics and LinkedIn.
