IBM dumps chip unit, pays GlobalFoundries $1.5 billion to take the business off its hands

It's the end of an era -- IBM is paying GlobalFoundries to take over its chip manufacturing and exiting that business altogether. The company will continue to sell and presumably design Power chips in partnership with GlobalFoundries.
