IBM unveils Verse email service

2014-11-19 08:58:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) IBM has launched a new email service, dubbed Verse, which the company claims will "reinvent" the Inbox. The tool is offered on a freemium basis and brings together IBM's cloud, analytics, social and security platforms with a view to eliminating as much clutter as possible. It integrates the many ways people connect each day via email, meetings, calendars, file sharing, instant messaging, social updates, video chats and more through a single collaboration environment. According to IBM, the app will be the first messaging system to feature "faceted search", which enables users to pinpoint and retrieve specific information they're seeking across all the various types of content within their email. IBM Verse will also use built-in analytics to provide an 'at-a-glance' view that learns each individual user's habits over time and puts the highest-priority people and tasks at the top level. The company said the app won't mine a user's inbox to increase advertising and monetise that data in other ways, unlike most freely available mail services. In addition, IBM Verse will also have a future option to query a Watson-thinking supercomputer on a given topic. The company is releasing a beta version of Verse to select business clients and partners in November 2014, before rolling out the app for individual iOS and Android users in the first quarter of 2015.
