IPTV subscribers up 21 percent to 96 million in 2013

(Telecompaper) There were 96 million IPTV subscribers around the world at the end of 2013, 21 percent or 17 million subscribers more than a year earlier, according to Point Topic. Some 14.1 percent of fixed broadband subscribers also subscribed to an IPTV service at the end of last year, making it an important driver for continued growth in demand for broadband. Eastern European markets' IPTV customers grew by 31 percent to 5.18 million last year, with East Asia's up 24 percent to 44.91 million, North America's up 16 percent to 13.19 million and the rest of Europe up 12 percent to 28.93 million. Africa and Oceania saw 22 percent growth to 128,500 and 25 percent growth to 30,000, respectively.
