(Telecompaper) KPN has officially launched its OTT video and TV service Play. Customers can sign up on a dedicated website for a free one-month trial of the service, and those who take a full subscription before year-end will pay a promotional price of EUR 11.99 per month for the first 11 months. The standard price is EUR 14.99 per month. Announced in April and tested in the following months by the Dutch operator, Play offers a range of on-demand content as well as the most popular Dutch channels live. The service works with any internet connection, with no need to be a KPN subscriber. KPN offers apps to use the service on iOS and Android devices, and Play also works over Google's Chromecast. In total, Live offers 22 live channels, including the three NPO public channels, three RTL channels, SBS 6, Discovery Channel and National Geographic. Catch-up and recording options are available for some channels, and on-demand programming from channels such as HBO is also available. In addition, a VOD library of films and series is included. The service is initially offered in SD, and KPN said it's working to improve this to HD, as well as introduce a browser version of Play.
