LEO Missions Ground Segment Engineer

We are currently looking for a Ground Segment System Engineer to contribute to future LEO Low Earth Orbit missions, including the Doppler Wind LIDAR DWL and Artic Weather Satellite AWS projects. The role will be based in our clients premises in Darmstadt, Germany, with occasional travel required for certain projects. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include To define the conceptual build and configuration which will result in a physical architecture, described by its complete functional, hardware and software characteristics and interfaces To assess dependability, effectiveness, risks, efforts and planning To perform technical analyses for the purpose of resolving requirements conflicts, assessing system effectiveness and justification of the proposed conceptual and physical designs considering the reuse of operational components developed in the context of various EUMETSAT ground segments as well as COTS System and Ground segment requirement engineering, specifically to support definition of system level requirements and definition of ground segment requirements flowing down from system level ones Lead and follow up activities aimed at setting up a ground infrastructure antenna, front end back, processing and distribution at EUMETSAT in time for launch e.g. AWS Protoflight launch To perform RAMS analysis to define the overall system availability and reliability, identification of single points of failure and assess general maintainability aspects of the system. This activity may be a contribution to a wider RAMS analysis scope at systemmission level. To support the evaluation of technical solutions in the scope of current state of the art technologies, also in the context of their suitability for the implementation of critical ground segment operational systems. Identification of opportunities for the use of shared ground segment infrastructures, these being multimission elements or other of interest for the programme. Support IVV design and preparation activities and support for definition of test tools and test data required to support the IVV implementation. Contribute to the overall engineering activities initially for the AWS and DWL missions, in particular contribution to mission system requirements engineering and to system design. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory Masters degree or equivalent, from an institution of higher education in a relevant discipline, with at least 5 years of relevant work experience Experience in requirementsbased design, development and verification process of satellite ground systems Knowledge of processes implementation based on standards, in particular knowledge of ECSS and CCSDS standards Familiarity with system change control and configuration management procedures Fluent in English, both written and spoken The following skills would be highly desirable Experience with LowEarth Orbiting satellites Experience in the area of endtoend data acquisition and processing Experience in the area of mission control systems and operations Knowledge of requirement management process and tools, e.g. DOORS Knowledge of relevant space missions, in particular on ground segment development of EPSSG, Aeolus andor satellites constellation ground segments Familiarity with ModelBased Systems Engineering tools eg.
