March 27 guest opinion: Riverbend Landfill has been allowed to grow too large

   The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is about to issue a permit that will allow the Riverbend Landfill to continue to operate for a couple more years.    Riverbend, owned by Waste Management, is a garbage dump - 82 acres wide and 130 feet tall. Years ago, I thought it was good that Yamhill County had its own dump, but I've changed my mind.
