(Telecompaper) Czech association NIX.CZ, a platform for network interconnection, announced the acquisition of one of two IP exchange nodes in Slovakia, the Slovak project Sitelix. NIX.cz bought the project from the company Sitel which launched and operated Sitelix. After the takeover, Sitel will be able to focus on its core activities, which is operating its own data centres, and construction, operation and repair of fibre-optic networks, said project manager at Sitel Marian Okres. The companies signed a contract on the acquisition at the end of 2014. Sitelix will be controlled from Prague, and NIX.CZ will take over all its customers. Sitelix was established in 2005 as an alternative peering node in Slovakia, originally for the purpose of distribution of TV channels. It was originally intended only as an additional service for Sitel's customers. NIX.CZ is the biggest interconnection point in the Czech Republic and ranks among the top ten IXPs in Europe.
