NREL Reports 31.1% Efficiency for III-V Solar Cell

NREL has announced world record of 31.1% conversion efficiency for 2-junction solar cell under one sun of illumination. Made of gallium indium phosphide cell atop gallium arsenide cell, tandem unit has area of about 0.25 cm² and was measured under AM1.5 global spectrum at 1,000 W/m². Cell is covered on front with bilayer anti-reflection coating, and on back with highly reflective gold contact layer.
