(Telecompaper) NXP Semiconductors will supply NFC technology for the new iPhone, people familiar with Apple's plans told the Financial Times. The NFC chips will allow iPhones to connect with payment terminals or ticketing systems, as well as opening up the possibility for other payment and IoT applications. Apple is expected to announce the new iPhone 09 September, and on 28 August the company sent out invitations to the media for an event that day. Wired magazine reported that one of the hallmark features of the new iPhone will be its own payment platform, which should be based on a combination of Bluetooth and NFC. NXP is already a supplier to Apple in other areas. Both companies declined to comment on the report.
