(Telecompaper) Netflix has confirmed an increase in prices for new customers in Europe and the US. The company signaled at its last earnings report that it would raise prices in order to offset growing costs of content. New customers in the UK will pay an additional GBP 1 per month for the streaming service, for a total GBP 6.99, and new customers in the euro zone now pay EUR 8.99 per month. In Sweden, the price also goes up, from SEK 79 to SEK 89 per month. In the US, customers will now pay USD 8.99 for the standard plan up by one dollar per month. Netflix also introduced a new USD 7.99 plan, offering SD-quality viewing on just one screen at a time. Existing customers will not be affected by the price increases and keep the same price for at least two years, the company said in a letter to clients.
