New cars drive retail sales higher in January

New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the volume of retail sales increased by 3.3% in January compared to the previous month on the back of stronger car and furniture sales. If car sales are excluded, the CSO said there was a decrease of 0.1% in the volume of retail sales in January from December while it reported an increase of 4.8% in the annual figure.
