New report ranks Duke Energy first in carbon emissions among U.S. power companies

The purchases of Cinergy Corp. and Progress Energy Inc. nearly tripled Duke Energy Corp.'s carbon emissions from 2000 to 2013 in absolute terms, according to a new report prepared by a national consulting firm. The Benchmarking Air Emissions 2015 report compares power production and emissions of several pollutants for the nation's 100 largest power producers.
