A vacancy for an Optical Instrument Technical Lead Engineer mf has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Toulouse. You will join the System Studies Advanced Projects department, managing several design contracts simultaneously for a duration of 6 months to 1 and a half years. Each study is carried out with a team of 3 to 5 people. Depending on your experience, you will be responsible for one or two studies. Typically, a preproject study involves the following activities Starting from preliminary specifications of the mission, definition of instrument concepts to meet needs. For each concept, sizing and making a first order definition of the different subassemblies type of optical combination, choice of detectors, mechanical and electrical architecture, establishing performance reviews MTF, SB report, etc., Comparing different concepts and choosing a concept, integrating feasibility, performance and development criteria duration, risk, cost, Interfacing with the customer and if necessary with the science team on the specifications of the mission, More detailed studies and analysis on the critical points of a concept optical combination, alignment tolerances, thermoelastic stability, electronic functions, etc. with the support of different specialists from the instrument division, Detailed performance reviews, and interface reviews dimensions, mass, power, data rates, implementation of deliverable performance models if necessary, Production of a development plan and estimation of costs, definition of the development process, test plan, and test resources necessary, Writing of preliminary specifications for certain componentsequipment and consultation with suppliers, identification of European organisations who may intervene in the project according to their experience and knowhow, Writing of designstudy reports in French or in English, oral presentations in front of the customer, Response to calls for tender Proposals for modelling or RD activities, Publications, participation in conferences. This position will require occasional travel for business once a month in Europe, and, as such, you must be able to travel accordingly. As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate some of the following skills and experience. Qualified engineer or university equivalent or ideally a PhD in astrophysics, 5 years of experience in optical instruments, Ideally a good knowledge of scientific observation missions, Expertise in the field of optic and detection visible detection andor infrared optics, Knowledge and use software for design and analysis of optical performance preferably CODEV and ASAP would be highly appreciated, Ideally, excellent knowledge of optical instrument development costs, Creativity, Excellent interpersonal skills, A taste for innovation, Advanced level of English and French.
