(Telecompaper) Orange has signed up the 10 millionth customer of Orange Money worldwide. Ms Kanny G of Dakar, Senegal, won a smartphone with XOF 100,000 (EUR 152) of credit when she went to an Orange Money outlet to open an account. Orange Money is now available in 13 countries, Botswana, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Egypt (under the name Mobicash), Guinea, Jordan, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Niger, Senegal and Uganda. In 2013, more than EUR 2.2 billion in transactions were conducted through Orange Money. In some countries, such as Cote d'Ivoire, more than 40 percent of all Orange customers have an Orange Money account. This year, Orange plans to open additional corridors for Orange Money International Transfer, which currently offers mobile-to-mobile money transfers to users in Cote d'Ivoire, Mali and Senegal. The operator also plans to create services for customers with bank accounts and to develop new interfaces for smartphones.
