Operating under a bridge in Portland, The People's Depot aimed to give Oregonians who collect cans for a living a chance to earn more while bringing more containers back for reuse. The center operates just two hours a day, five days a week, yet recovered almost 9.5 million containers in 2024 alone.� Now a new law, SB�992A will allow creation of a similar alternative redemption program.
