Special investigation report on tire safety, adopted by NTSB, finds current methods of registering and recalling tires ineffective and notes insufficient guidance by tire and automotive industries on risks associated with tire aging. Consequently, NTSB made 9 recommendations to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to improve registration and recall processes, develop better guidance for consumers, and promote technological innovations for reducing tire-related crashes.
