(Telecompaper) Qualcomm has introduced its fifth-generation LTE modem, the Gobi 9x45, and its second-generation Qualcomm RF360 Envelope Tracker, the QFE3100.  Designed with the latest LTE connectivity, the products are currently sampling with customers and are anticipated to be commercially available in 2015. The 9x45 modem is the first announced Category 10 LTE cellular modem that supports global Carrier Aggregation for download speeds of up to 450 Mbps, upload speeds of up to 100 Mbps, and CA across the TDD and FDD spectrum. The modem is based on the second-generation 20nm technology node and supports up to 60 MHz 3x CA in the downlink and up to 40 MHz 2x CA in the uplink. The 9x45 modem integrates all major cellular standards, including DC-HSPA, EVDO, CDMA 1x, GSM and TD-SCDMA, supports all major RF bands and band combinations, and provides global position support for all major constellations including GPS, Beidou, Glonass and Galileo. Additionally, the modem features integrated support for LTE Broadcast, VoLTE and LTE Dual SIM. The QFE3100 is optimized for a 30 percent smaller board area and enhanced power efficiency compared to the previous generation, as well as allows improved calibration and implementation tools to ease Envelope Tracking design-in for OEMs and accelerate commercial deployment. This Envelope Tracker is designed to enable sleeker designs and improved battery life by reducing power amplifier power consumption and heat generation.
