Remote Sensing Scientist

This position, based near Frankfurt in Germany, is for a Scientist with at least 3 years experience in atmospheric remote sensing in the microwave spectrum. You should have a university degree in meteorology, atmospheric physics, remote sensing, instrument engineering or equivalent. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. This role involves Microwave Imager MWI and Ice Cloud Imager ICI instruments and the primary task of the Scientist is the development of algorithms for calibration and navigation of MWI and ICI level 0 data to generate level 1a and 1b datasets. The key experience and attributes sought are Experience in atmospheric remote sensing in the microwave spectrum Experience in radiative transfer Indepth understanding of instrument calibration and characterisation Familiarisation with Earth observation systems Handling and processing of remote sensing data Good writing skills in preparing scientific technical documents Very good skills in higher programming language e.g. Fortran, C The working language is English. This is a freelance contract assignment with an initial period of 2 years starting in August 2013 with two options to extend for a further period of one year each.
