(Telecompaper) Canadian operator Rogers Communications has announced rollout plans for its Ignite Gigabit internet service over which it will deliver 4K TV services with a new 4K set-top box. Rogers plans to roll out its Ignite Gibabit internet service in downtown Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area this year and to reach over 4 million homes across its entire cable footprint across Ontario and Atlantic Canada by the end of 2016. The operator will introduce 4K TV broadcast with high dynamic range technology in time for the April 2016 opening home game of the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team. It will deliver over 500 hours of live sports, movies and TV shows in 4K from next year. The 4K programming will include all 81 Blue Jays home games on Sportsnet, over 20 NHL games starting with the Montreal Canadiens versus Toronto Maple Leafs game on 23 January, over 100 hours of 4K movies and TV shows on Shomi, and an ever-growing catalogue of Netflix original series in 4K. Rogers is taking online reservations for Rogers 4K TV, 4K STB and Rogers Ignite Gigabit internet with unlimited usage for CAD 149.99 a month.
