JOB DESCRIPTION As a member of the Generic and Systems Infrastructure Division GSI, the key person shall be involved in implementing improvements to the development environment for the EUMETSAT Data Centre Archive and will be integrated within the Data Services Engineering Team. The duties shall be to analyse, design, and implement appropriate software configuration management, to support continuous integration, testing and deployment of UMARF software. Particular focus for this assignment will be to modernise and improve the development and build processes by using modern tools and strategies. It is envisioned that this should be implemented on the Technical Compute Environment TCE. Responsibilities Duties Tasks Particular the tasks will include, but not be limited to The migration of the subversion repository to the TCE. Build management Improve the build processes with the introduction of continuous integration technologies. This will require some extensive rewriting of current build scripts. The following goals should be achieved o An automated build process o Continuous running of test cases were possible o Improved reportingrealtime notification of build failuretest failures etc Release management o Improve the current software package management and deployment o Enable releases to be easily and efficiently implemented, tested and deployed Simplification of the development environment o All prerequisites libraries, jar files, environmental variables etc, should be available from version control Advice, suggestions and introduction of tools, practices and strategies for the software configuration management. Qualifications University degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline Required knowledge The key person shall have skills and experience in the following mandatory areas minimum 5 years for each 1. System Development Maintenance Skills o Experience of building complex software, in particular setting up a continuous integration environment. o Experience of migrating and updating Sub Version repositories 2. Software Technology Skills o Experience of source code control systems SubVersion configuration and administration o Unix commands and shell scripting o Advanced knowledge and experience of using ant o Extensive experience of scripting languages o Extensive experience with software package management o Extensive experience and knowledge of the configuration and administration of continuous integration software e.g. Jenkins. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the key person must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other.
