Samsung to use Tizen for new version of smartwatch - report

(Telecompaper) The new version of Samsung's Galaxy Gear smartwatch will run on Tizen, not Android, three people familiar with the situation told USA Today. Samsung will unveil the updated Gear watch and a new HTML5 version of the Tizen operating system at the Mobile World Congress later this month in Barcelona. The first version of the Gear smartwatch, launched last year, ran on Android. Replacing Android with Tizen for the new version of the Gear is part of Samsung's efforts to develop more of its own software and become less reliant on Google's Android OS.
