Short-Term Weather Tailwinds, Long-Term Catalysts In An Unexpected Place
2015-12-21 12:41:46| Airlines - Topix.net
When conversing with a colleague about the best ways to exploit a prolonged period of depressed oil prices the normal means came up: getting long an airline on the grounds that earnings will grow with jet fuel prices down, and perhaps on increased air travel in general; buying into a retailer on the theory that lower prices at the pump will cause an increase in consumer spending; going long a refiner such as Valero on widening spreads ; and, of course, selling short shares in a high-cost, debt-straddled producer -- Chesapeake Energy , for example. Each of these avenues are unsatisfactory.
