The next few years will see the exciting realisation of business opportunities on Inmarsats existing fleet of 10 satellites, as well as the launch of Alphasat a joint venture with the European Space Agency and our 1.2 billion next generation satellites and services Global Xpress GX. Primary role purpose Inmarsat operates 12 geosynchronous satellites, 10 of which are owned by Inmarsat and provide a wide range of global communications services voice and data for the maritime, air and land based communities. A spacecraft analyst is required to take a responsible position as part of the Spacecraft Analyst team who perform the onstation spacecraft engineering operations for the Inmarsat current and future satellite fleet. Key responsibilities of the position To define, plan and execute operations to manage the satellite configurations to maintain their health, safety and function examples are eclipse related activities such as battery reconditioning, thermal and power management. To assess and report on satellite health by daily monitoring of their status and periodic monitoring of longterm trends in behaviour of onboard units. To respond to satellite contingency situations by assessing satellite status, identifying the remedial response and directing recovery operations. To maintain satellite telemetry and telecommand databases, including alarm limits, to support safe and efficient operations. To maintain the routine and contingency satellite control procedures and validate updates against the satellite simulator. To develop and maintain the reference data sets and software tools required by the Analyst Group to perform the satellite health and performance monitoring, assessment and reporting to ensure early detection of problems. To work with the Inmarsat and spacecraft manufacturer engineering support teams to investigate anomalies and develop relevant operational solutions. To respond positively to any other requests that help achieve Inmarsats goals. Essential knowledge and skills Science or Engineering University Degree or equivalent qualifications. Extensive experience in a satellite operations environment. Direct spacecraft operational experience is mandatory. Experience in design and operations of different spacecraft subsystems, such as Power, Thermal and Attitude subsystems. Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken. Excellent analytical skills resulting in clear and concise explanations of observations and anomalies. Good PC skills with knowledge of MS Windows, MS Office programs. Should have relevant and proven experience in working with spacecraft manufacturers and satellite engineering support teams for the specification, development and implementation of satellite specific operations including satellite anomalies for at least one previous geosynchronous satellite projects. Desirable knowledge and skills Experience in working with one or more of the following Boeing 702, Astrium E3000, TAS Spacebus 4000, Lockheed Martin Series 4000 satellite buses with a preference for Boeing 702 experience. Familiarity with the Telemetry, Telecommand and Ranging Standards. Previous experience with the Inmarsat satellite control system I4S. Ability to write scripts and macros in an appropriate language e.g. Visual Basic, Microsoft Office, Unix to achieve data analysis and data manipulation for analysis and reporting. Inspired Communication Consults on and supports different departments within Inmarsat and outside entities to formulate security policies, procedures and practises. Sphere of influence of the position Together with the department operations and support teams, the successful candidate will be responsible for the development and operation of Inmarsats satellite and ground control systems within the CTO division. The successful candidate may be required to periodically support Inmarsats Space Segment Procurement team, including possible short period secondments, to ensure future satellites can be safely and efficiently integrated with the existing fleet and operated thereafter. There will be significant exposure to external entities spacecraft manufacturers such as Boeing, Astrium, TAS and Lockheed Martin as well as internal entities the teams responsible for the Inmarsat communications network. Other relevant information The Spacecraft Analyst will be required to be part of an oncall roster and therefore should be available to provide oncall support during evenings and weekends this may require the individual to travel to City Road outside of office hours.
