Sprint to reintroduce Nextel as enterprise brand - report

2014-01-02 09:36:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Sprint is considering reintroducing its Nextel brand for the business market, TechCrunch reports. The brand was phased out when Sprint decided to shut down its iDen push-to-talk network in 2013. However, a source familiar with the matter told TechCrunch that Nextel will be re-introduced, as part of a larger branding overhaul coming in Q1 in which Sprint also plans to launch a new prepaid brand called Sprint Freedom. This will merge its existing prepaid brands Boost and Virgin Mobile. Sprint declined to comment. The Nextel service will be part of a bigger push to court business customers, offering premium plans with 4G fixed and mobile broadband services. It will build off the Clear business started by Wimax operator Clearwire. More devices working on the tri-band LTE network will also be introduced, including two hotspots and three tablets, some available with unlimited data.
