At the tail end of the 19th century, it wasn't uncommon for residents of Blagden Alley to hear horse hooves trip-trop past their homes. The Shaw micro-neighborhood - bound by N and M streets to the north and south, and Ninth and 10th streets to the east and west - was once dotted with stables and sat just a sugar cube's throw from a livery.
