This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. System Administrator Software Build and Deployment 2013005 Job Description We are looking for an IT System Administrator to support our customer EUMETSAT. You will join the Generic Infrastructure and Systems Division GSI team which takes care of the maintenance and further development of the complete operational ground segment computer infrastructure. Your tasks will include, but not be limited to Routine system administration, including Participation in the daily EUMETSAT Mission Operations coordination meetings Participation in the regular anomaly review boards Preventive system administration Analysis, planning and performance of HW and SW upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between computer and storage subsystem Installation and configuration of operating system and other software, tuning of operating systems parameters to optimize performance Implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated andor controlled execution of the above activities Generation or update of technical documentation in relation to system upgrades Correction of the detected computer and storage HW, SW and performance issues Corrective system administration Ensuring that in case of computer and storage HW or system SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, performance of backup procedures Liaison with the external providers of HW and system SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions Support to SW development and maintenance in relation to the utilization of system resources Interfacing to COTS support and maintenance providers Enduser initiated changes and user support Standard administrative tasks adding or removing users, file system maintenance etc. based on procedures Backup and Restore Tasks based on procedures Support for critical operations or special installations Support to inventory activities Required Skills and Experience A university degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline and experience covering the following skills and technologies Proficiency in software configuration management principles Expert knowledge and a significant work experience of Linux and Unix operating systems Experience in administration and troubleshooting of distributed systems Good understanding of incident and problem management Experience in Change Management processes Knowledge in networking, distributed applications, and TCPIP services Good experience in VMware virtualization Technical documentation skills Experience in an operational or production environment, characterized by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and server side, and by high availability requirements Desirable Skills and Experience Practical knowledge of as many as possible of the following software tools and products will be an advantage Container technologies Docker Scripting languages e.g. bash, ksh, csh, Perl, Python IT system design skills Knowledge and experience in security principlesconcepts, hardening techniques, secure architecture and protocols, penetration and vulnerability testing, tools Serena Dimensions CM Basic Windows System Administration MySQL and Oracle Databases TCPIP and related network protocols and applications, e.g. NIS, LDAP, NFS, DNS, SNMP, FTP, NTP, etc. High Availability software like RedHat HA AddOn, Veritas Cluster or any other Work Location Darmstadt, Germany Dates Application Deadline 21 February 2020 Start of Work April 2020 Important Notes Before applying to this position, please read the page Notes to Applicants on the Solenix website under Career.
