(Telecompaper) Huawei and T-Mobile Netherlands have shown a smart parking concept, based on Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) technology. The two companies demoed the service at the Smart City Event in Amsterdam, 7-9 June. Every parking spot is fitted with a small battery powered module that sends a signal when the parking space is available. The city gathers this information in a map application, to show available spots and analyze inner-city traffic. T-Mobile uses expertise from parent company Deutsche Telekom, which is developing a portfolio of M2M services for automotive, healthcare and industrial automation. According to Innovation and product Manager Michiel Huiskens, the number of applications for NB-IoT is unlimited. T-Mobile is embarking on a series of Cook&Hack sessions with developers and customers, in order to gather information on future applications in IoT.
