TIM and Nokia on course to make San Marino first 5G state in Europe

2018-09-04 13:57:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia (TIM) and Nokia have activated the first 5G antenna complying with 3GPP Release 15 standards in Faetano in the Republic of San Marino, the latest stage of their plan to convert the micro-state into the first nation in Europe with an active 5G mobile network. The antenna supports "Massive-MIMO" technology and is able to simultaneously handle dozens of incoming and outgoing radio signals and dynamically adapt to the position of individual users and traffic demand, said the partners. Nokia's equipment also allows for the virtualisation of network components and radio access.
