(Telecompaper) TIM (Telecom Italia) has announced that it will be offering a 1 Gbps FTTH-based broadband service in Milan starting on 01 June. The first phase of the rollout will see 3,000 customers take part in a live test of the new technology over a six-month period, said the operator, adding that all the new or existing customers who choose to activate the offer will be provided with a high-performance router to take advantage of the download speed of 1 Gbps and upload speed of 100 Mbps. Milan will be the second Italian city to test the technology after Perugia, where TIM has recently announced a smaller 1 Gbps FTTH rollout in 1,000 premises, starting on 27 May.
