(Telecompaper) UK ISP TalkTalk has acquired financially strapped supermarket chain Tesco's Blinkbox VoD movie and TV series business and its broadband and voice customers, debt free and as a single cash transaction. Blinkbox's technical expertise in multi-platform, multi-device content delivery and incremental content relationships are complementary to its buyer's strategy of being the best value for money TV provider in the UK, TalkTalk says, adding that TalkTalk is the fastest growing TV platform in the UK with more than 1.2 million customers. The acquisition will help TalkTalk deliver key initiatives significantly faster, such as offering a pay 'TV anywhere' app. TalkTalk said integration of Blinkbox will begin immediately. Benefits and synergies from restructuring the combined platform are expected to be felt from the end of the year. Tesco's broadband and voice base represents about 75,000 broadband and 20,000 voice subscribers, who will be transferred to the TalkTalk network in the coming months. TalkTalk does not disclose financial details, but the Telegraph writes that Tesco will raise GBP 5 million from the sale.
