(Telecompaper) Telecom Argentina has announced plans to completely overhaul its mobile network in an ARS 18 billion (USD 2 billion) investment over the 2015-17 period, starting with ARS 5.5 billion this year alone. After securing spectrum in the 850 MHz and 1900 MHz bands, Telecom Argentina will increase the capacity of its 2G and 3G network by 50 percent over the next two years. In addition, with a view to meeting traffic demand and helping to manage the migration to 4G, the company intends to boost its IP backbone network capacity by ten times. Telecom Argentina's mobile unit Personal currently has 4G services in 22 cities in 16 provinces and the operator plans to increase the number of base stations in the greater Buenos Aires metropolitan area by 50 percent between 2015 and 2016.
