Valentin Gapontsev , the founder and CEO of IPG Photonics and considered by Russians to be the father of the fiber-optic laser industry, reported total compensation last year of $1.2 million. But what separates Gapontsev's salary from most other Massachusetts technology executives is that he was paid partially in Russian rubles and euros, which have both been hit hard by the strength of the U.S. dollar.
