The Villages Suntimes: Hurricane Alex formed in early January and made landfall as a tropical storm in The Azores. The U.S. Air Force sent a Hurricane Hunter plane to the storm late Friday afternoon to gather more information. Wind shear in the area and cooler waters deep in the Atlantic could slow the low's development into a named storm, said Paul Walker, a meteorologist with AccuWeather Inc.in State College, Pennsylvania.
