(Telecompaper) Twitter is taking the US Department of Justice (DoJ) to court against the government's surveillance laws, Reuters reported. In the lawsuit, filed in US District Court for Northern California, Twitter said that current rules prevent it from revealing it has received any government requests for user data relating to national security. Twitter said the restrictions violate the Constitution's First Amendment guarantee of free speech. Twitter's lawsuit follows an agreement between internet companies like Google and Microsoft with the government about court orders they receive related to surveillance. The agreement freed the companies to disclose the number of orders they received, but only in broad ranges.
