U.S. Steel shutting down Iron Range taconite plant

United States Steel Corp. will idle its Keetac taconite iron ore operations on May 13, putting as many as 412 employees on leave, the company said Thursday. Pittsburgh-based U.S. Steel said the Keewatin, Minn., plant will remain shut down indefinitely, although a handful of employees will be kept on to maintain it.
