U.S. Stocks Fluctuate Near All-Time Highs as Retail Sales Gain

U.S. stocks fluctuated, with benchmark indexes near all-time highs, as a better-than- estimated gain in retail sales offset concern that the recent rally in equities may have been overdone. The Nasdaq Biotechnology Index lost 2.2 percent, led by a slump of 4.5 percent at Biogen Idec Inc. Hertz Global Holdings Inc. fell 12 percent after saying it will restate three years of financial results.
