Oil IT Journal's Neil McNaughton recalls a 2004 editorial on how to unambiguously represent engineering units of measure in the digital world and checks in with the International Internet Consortium to see how progress is going on the thorny but critical issue. It's still a bit vague but with a little detective work, a UoM crumb trail can be followed from the IIC, through OPC-UA, into the Open Geospatial Consortium's Sensor Things, back to POSC/Energistics on again to OSDU!
