(Telecompaper) US carrier Verizon Wireless has announced plans to start 5G mobile technology field trials in 2016 in partnership with Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Ericsson, Nokia, Qualcomm and Samsung. The companies have formed working teams to accelerate innovation. Verizon is creating 5G network environments or 'sandboxes' at its innovation centres in Boston and San Francisco. The expected benefits of 5G announced at the first Verizon 5G Technology Forum in August include 50 times faster speeds than current LTE, single millisecond latency, and the capacity to handle more IoT devices. The Technology Forum also includes venture capital groups focused on emerging technologies.
