Vivendi, Niel express interest in Dailymotion - report

2013-05-03 13:12:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Vivendi and a holding company backed by Iliad founder Xavier Niel have expressed interest in France Telecom-Orange's video portal Dailymotion, reports website Wansquare without citing its sources. Vivendi spoke to France Telecom on 2 May about their interest in increasing the diversified group's content and media assets. On the same day, Le Monde Libre, a holding company for the Le Monde group shares owned by Xavier Niel, Matthieu Pigasse and Pierre Berge, also made a formal offer. Niel was not available to react to the report and Vivendi refused to comment on the matter. Yahoo reportedly pulled out of a deal to acquire 75 percent of Dailymotion, after France's industry minister objected to the sale of a controlling stake in the successful French online business. France Telecom is still looking for a partner to help Dailymotion grow in the US market.
