White House orders more public spectrum sharing

2013-06-17 08:59:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) The US President announced new initiatives to free up more spectrum for mobile broadband. A Presidential Memorandum directs federal government agencies to enhance the efficiency of their use of spectrum and make more capacity available to private users. Agencies must also increase their collaboration and data-sharing with the private sector in order to maximize spectrum efficiency, as well as encourage greater sharing of spectrum between government and commercial users. The government will also boost public-private research and development on spectrum efficiency in government procurement and frequency assignments and improve the accuracy and scope of public reporting on spectrum usage. A White House-based Spectrum Policy Team will oversee implementation of the memorandum and make further recommendations.
