R train riders who have to switch trains to get from Brooklyn to Manhattan because of the closure of the Montague Street Tunnel may be getting full service back sooner than expected. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority , which had to shut down the tunnel in August of 2013 for a massive repair project to address significant damage caused by Superstorm Sandy, is putting the finishing touches on the work, and is almost ready to announce the reopening of the passageway, according to various media reports.
